TITLE: CLIMATE & ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS LITERACY CAMPAIGN PROJECT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:We Combined with civic education, climate and environmental literacy will create jobs, build a green consumer market, and allow citizens to engage with government in a meaningful way to solve climate change and environmental protection in Sierra Leone.

EaRP-SL NGO™ believes every school in Sierra Leone must have compulsory, assessed climate and environmental education with a strong civic engagement component.  In 2021, the EaRP-SL NGO started an environmental & Climate Literacy Campaign Project. we have ignited an education revolution to save the planet. This formal campaign, launched in 2021, is combining grassroots support and on the ground efforts by students, educators, and Volunteer with national level commitments from EaRP-SL NGO. Through our Climate and Environmental Literacy Campaign, we have ensured that 85700,000 students across Government Rokel Secondary School (GRSS), Government Model Secondary School (GMSS), Freetown Secondary School for Girls School (FSSG), Government Secondary School Kingtom (GSSK) and Prince of Wales Secondary School (POW) in Freetown benefit from this high-quality education to develop into informed and engaged environmental stewards to save Sierra Leone from environmental destruction. 

AIM:The project aims to educate students and individuals to make responsible and thoughtful decisions about their actions while considering the total environmental impact, trade-offs, and long-term consequences to their environment.

OBJECTIVES:  

  • To increase the knowledge of pupils about climate change proactive mitigation, adaption, and environmental protection at the community level.

  • To create awareness about climate change, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem preservation, environmental protection, and eco-tourism activities

  • To educate individuals about their negative environmental impact actions towards their community

ACHIEVED OBJECTIVES: 

  • Students can identify the main greenhouse gas emitted by human activities and give examples of activities that emit this gas.

  • Students can analyze the cause-and-effect relationship between human emissions of greenhouse gases and Climate Change

  • Now students can recognize the effect that the Human Enhanced Greenhouse Effect has on Climate Change.

  • Students have understood now how to take proactive measures in climate change mitigation, adaption, and environmental protection at local community level

  • Now we have established Student Ambassadors for climate change and environmental protection

  • Students can summarize the impact that atmospheric carbon dioxide has on the Earth’s average global temperature.
