Title:  BEACH BEAUTIFICATION & COCONUT TREE PLANTING PROJECT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Coconut tree planting in the tourism sector plays significant role in Beach beautification and touristic site, Economic trees planting (coconut) along the Beach front areas serve as Shade and provide the natural beauty of the Beach, it attracts tourist and generate income for the country. Economic tree planting (Coconut) poses a beautiful image of a city. Trees and green space in urban community areas crate positive image and pleasing experience for residents, tourists, festivals, parks, and green areas among others as primary elements for an urban tourism system. After a careful environmental survey undertaken by the Earth Regenerative Project Sierra Leone – NGO at Levuma Beach in Consultation with the community stakeholders, and according to the survey report from Levuma beach, it clearly stated that, levuma beach is prone to coastal erosion and environmental degradation as a result of sand mining which is a big environmental problem and the beach is used as a dumping site by the community people which is also posing a threat to the health of people and the decency of the levuma community. According to the stakeholder’s engagement meeting and the survey report there is an urgent need to beautify the levuma beach through the planting of coconut trees and the constant cleaning of the beach.

AIM: To mitigate coastal erosion and environmental degradation because of sand mining, which is a big environmental problem, and to address the high demand of coconut products and by products both domestic beach users and international tourists.

OBJECTIVES: 

  • To encourage youths in Levuma community in restoration of their tourist beaches through coconut tree planting and build in them the knowledge of environmental protection activities as a preventive measure to protect their environment.

  • To increase the knowledge of Levuma community people about climate change mitigation and environmental protection actions.

  • To stop the illegal sand mining and dumping of trash at levuma beach.

ACHIEVED OBJECTIVES: 

  • It improves biodiversity conservation, and land degradation and controls climate change through coconut tree planting and for a blissful atmosphere of the environment.

  • It creates a greener environment and a blissful atmosphere of the environment for people

  • It helps to restore degraded coastal environment of Luvema Community

  • It makes Levuma Community to be more environmentally friendly to people

  • The beautification of the beach front views at levuma community.
